the ways from calafate to the carratera, without rented car:

1. bus via rio gallegos

20hs, 100-105 peso, over the night to los antigos

10 peso to chile chico

2. bus on ruta40, about 190 peso, you can take it from chalten as well after the fitz roy if you there. it´s harder way (bad road) so it´s take about the same time

3. more attractive way through el chalten - if you in el chalten you can arive to ¨lagona del desierto¨ after the end of the city (no bus, tremp/taxi). there is cruz to pass the lagona to the other side. there as much as I know has horse with ¨agala¨ that take you over the chilean border to Candelario Mancilla, another sale to villa o`higgins. there you start the carratera where it really starts and not from the middle. it is possible you´ll need to wait some days for the cruzes, and I don´t know the payment. and there is not many information about it, but I met some ppl that do it...
