Nothing is impossible provided there is a will ;) Let us start one thing at a time... You could rent a car from this company: www.raider-srl.ro/ (just a recommendation, I always use trains when I want to go anywhere in the country, but I know few people which were happy with Raiders), you can take a Dacia Solenza at a good rate, it is not a large car, but it is stable on the road and for only one - two persons it is very good. The itinerary I would recommend for 7 days would go as it follows. From Bucharest you can go to Targoviste, with a visit on the way to the palace set by Constantin Brancoveanu in Mogosoaia in a fine blend of Baroque and Byzantine style. Then in Targoviste you can visit the fortress settled by Vald the Impaler, the former capital of Wallachia. Near Targoviste, do not miss a visit to Dealu Monastery, with a fine church bearing many interesting stone carving decorations. Move on towards Curtea de Arges via Campulung Muscel. Curtea de Arges hosts one of the most beautiful monastic settlements in the country, with impressive stone carved decorations and an interesting legend linked to its origins. Then you can go to Ramnicu Valcea and move on along the scenic Olt Gorges to Sibiu. In the evening you will reach the city of Sibiu, Romania`s largest medieval city, unfortunately nowadays under refurbishing works which have covered all central area in scaffoldings and working sites. You can stay at the fine, central verena or for a budget stay you can consider the excellent hotel-ela. 

The following day you can go to Sighisoara, but not before visiting some of the rural area around Sibiel, not far from Sibiu: many houses have been greatly preserved and traditions are at their best there. On the way to Sighisoara, do not miss a side trip to Biertan Fortified Church, one of the best preserved such settlements in Transylvania. Then reach Sighisoara and you can be hosted (even though you could continue to Vatra Dornei without problems) in the excellent casa-wagner or, for a budget option, at ibz. The following day you can go on to Vatra Dornei, a pleasant spa with a nice park, and you can go further in the monasteries area, to Moldovita and then Sucevita (where a fine place to stay is Mrs. Chetraru`s popas). From Sucevita move on to Putna, then Marginea Pottery Centre, down to Arbore Monastery, Gura Humorului with the two monasteries around, i.e. Humor and Voronet. Having a car helps alot in Bukovina and only when being there you will see it really does. There are many guesthouses in the area and you need not worry about accommodation. Then move to the South, to Targu Neamt and its fortress from where the Kingdom of Moldavia was once ruled over. Do not miss side trips to the monasteries of Secu, Sihastrie and Neamt. Eventually reach Izvorul Muntelui Lake and Dam, go along it and afterwards go along the impressibe Bicaz Gorges, allowing a bit more time for the driving, as the road between Bicaz and Gheorgheni is quite bad. In the evening reach Lacu Rosu with its sad story and stay overnight in the nice hotel there: Lacu Rosu Hotel, tel.: +4-0266-380036, [email protected], Mrs. Ilyes is doing a great job there (otherwise you could continue and reach in the evening the superb hotelfortuna in Tusnad Spa, with a great Szekler restaurant). The following day go down Olt Valley, the scenery is interesting. Further down, just 10 km. before entering Brasov, make a side trip to visit Prejmer Fortified Church, the largest of its kind in Transylvania. Reach Brasov and have a walk there, then you can move on to Rasnov Fortress, greatly restored a few years ago and providing a unique view to the neighbourhood. Farther on towards Pitesti there is Bran Castle you might consider visiting. You could stay in a great hotel at Moieciu de Sus, a few kilometers farther on the main road and then on a side dust road: www.moeciu.com; otherwise you could reach Sinaia for the night. Once in Sinaia you can visit the two beautiful palaces set by the royal family: the Peles and the Pelisor, as well as Sinaia Monastery around which the whole community developed. If staying here, you might consider the superb www.scpalacesa.ro with the recommended Palace Hotel or, for a low budget option, www.cerbul.ro. Then, on the way to Bucharest, I would recommend visiting Iulia Hasdeu Castle in Campina, as well as a possible side trip to Caldarusani and St. Nicholas - Balamuci monasteries. As for Bucharest itself, you can consider visiting the old centre with the interesting art museum hosted by the Royal Palace, the great Peasant Museum, the bunch of old churches and monasteries in the central area, the museums hosted by Romanit Palace, Sutu Palace, Cantacuzino Palace, as well as the Village Museum. Accommodation can be set, for the upmarket segment, at the excellent hotelopera and, on the low budget segment, the central and very good value hotelcarpatibucuresti, as well as the quiet cristman-hostel.
