If I were you I would take advatage of the fact that you can demo the gear in the U.S. before you buy them. When you come to New York buy a 2005 snowboard guide in any book shop, read a bit about the different types of snowboards/boots. Then choose what resort to go to. Hunter Mountain is good, but if you have the time I would go to New England area and upstate New York, Vermont, New Hampshire or Maine. Stowe, Killington, Mad River, Okemo, Jay Peak, Whiteface and Mount Snow are all great choices and there will be plenty of snowboard shop in the resort and the surrounding were you can demo your gear. Remember that if you choose to purchase the gear you demoed, your demo rental rate is subtracted from the purchase price. In this manner you will know exaticly what you are buying and you will make less of a gamble. As far as price I am sure you can get a great price before Christmas. There will be plenty of sales.
