 One hour by bus from Mexico City there is a town called Amecameca which lies right on the feet of the volcano Popocatepetl. You can see the volcano from the zocalo if you look to the side of the church, and this is a beautiful sight! :) There is a road that goes further up closer to the volcano, but the only way to get there is by taxi and it might be expensive... The problem is that sometimes the volcano smokes and then visibility can be lousy. When I went there the police even blocked the road 10km after Amecameca of fear that following the smoke will come fire...

The bus to Amecameca leaves from the Tapo bus terminal, the name of the bus company is Volcanes, and it costs 17 pesos each direction.
