”Christchurch Baazar“

Many backpackers who arrived to New Zealand are seeking for cars, to make their trip more flexable. The best option for those dearest travelers is to buy an old car, from backpackers or Dealers.

There are always more backpackers that would like to sell they car than travelers who look for one. Some of those cars are look good but actualy in very bad conditions.
Dealers become a better option cuase of that, sometimes you get insurances from the Dealers about the quality of the cars.
One of the places to buy a car from a dealer in christchurch is BACKPACKER BAAZAR, , on the corner of Tuam st. and Barbados st. So here is my little x-perience.


Del Hurley is a car dealer who managing the Backpackers Baazar and deal with backpackers only. Del buy his cars from backpackers only, he`s ``fixing`` those cars and sell them to Backpackers in high prices than what you can buy it from a backpacker.

Many backpackers who buy cars from Del find out later, sometimes after only 50kms, that the car they just bought for expensive price just got cracked down
and it`s not worth to fix it.

Of course if you don`t make any insurance, or AA membership u`ll have to pay some money and hope that Del will keep his promises and give you another car or will fix it and share the costs

But as I said, with Del not everything is bright and sweet. Del is an Irish , and Irish type of person. When you a make a buisness with him you might get troubles with non-reliable cars and with time - non-reliable DEALER!

My car got stuck somewhere in the West coast, my engine blew off, not my fualt - that what the mechanics in Greymouth said, 3 of them!
But Del kept blaming me for that and for the costs with that car for him. He just gave me a diffrent car that made more troubles than the first one.

After few months, when I came back to CHCH to sell my car I found it very difficult to sell the car, and had to sell it to Del in the 90 minute.
Del took advantage of the situation and made me to go and take out a new WOF.

The WOF check showed some problems that weren`t my fualt and I got those problems with the car. Only that Del mad a new WOF on the same day that he gave it to me. So I was stuck with a car and NO WOF, just to fix most of the problems would cost 500nz$.

Del also promise to buy the car back in 50%, in this case he said this is not the car that you bought and it cost me a lot of monry to handle with the first one that you broke, so I had compromize on a low price for the car, much less than half.

Del is a crook, from that kind of the smiling one.
For your own sake, read that note from me and think again before buying an old car, from backpackers or Dealers.

very important for me to make clear that this is my x-perience with Del. I found his as non-reliable person and I thought it would be not fair not to share that bad experience with other people or upcoming new zealand travelers.

New Zealand is most beautilful country and it would be shae to ruin a trip becuse a greedy crook like Del.
