”arriving from the airport“
For those who are landing in mexico city! the taxies from the airport cost 200 pesos and more (20 usd), for just reaching inside the city. but, from the airport you can keep walking some 50 meters, and go down to the metro system, which is very recomended (in reasonable hours, not midnight, for security reasons), easy and cheap: it costs you only 2 pesos. altough you should take care for your bags, the metro is usually crowded, so the chance of being robbed is pretty low.
you can get a usfull map of the Metro system for free, from the clerk who sell the tickets. from the station, Terminal Arena, you choose which direction you want to go. for reaching to Zocalo, for example, you take line nomber 5 (the yellow one) to Pantitlan, switch there to line nomber 9 (the brown) to Tacubaya. don´t continue till there, but go down at Chaabacano station. switch again to line 2 on the direction to Cuatro Caminos, and go down at Zocalo station.from the station you will have to walk some, because there is one station for each area. you can reach that way also to the stations of Zona Rosa, Polanco and ect. the metros are very frequent(5 minutes maximum), and you can look at the metro map (on every guide book) before your arriving, so you will know how to reach your destiny.
remember that there are reports of robbing taxies. for my opinion the metro is safer, and much more cheaper.
