”Kuelap“
strong>Kuelap is a fortress built by the pre-inca culture of the Chachapoyas. It is huge and very impressive. You can see the big wall and the round houses where the people lived, one of the houses was reconstructed, the others were left as they were found with the jungle covering them.
The entrance costs 10 soles, 5 soles for students. There are guides that speak Spanish at the entrance, 20 soles, ask at the ticket office. If you need an English speaking guide you better take a tour from Chachapoyas.
How to get there:
There are 2 combis daily from Chachapoyas - one early morning and one in the afternoon. The morning combi leaves Chachapoyas at 3am and goes direct to Kuelap, arrives there at about 8. The afternoon combi passes in Tingo at about 5-6 in the afternoon and arrives to the village Maria at about 8. I don`t know what time it leave Chachapoyas and where from, I took it from Tingo. Next morning it goes at 6 from Maria to Kuelap.
As both combis return to Chachapoyas right after they arrive in Kuelap, you either have to hitchhike back (difficult) or sleep near Kuelap and take the combi back the next morning.
