”Whale watching in Baja California“
During the months of January to end of March Grey Whales can be spotted by the hundereds in the different lagoons in Baja California. This is the area where the whales come during the cold winter of Alaska to mate and give birth to new whales.
This is an amazing experience. We went whale watching at the end of March and saw only the females and babies, the males had already left for Alaska. At this time the mothers are less protective of the new borns and they approach the boats in a friendly manner. If you are really lucky you can even touch a whale or give it a kiss!!!
We recommend to go whale watching in Guerrero Negro in the Laguna Ojo de Libre because you see many whales and the price is the cheapest we found $45 per person for 4 hour trip plus a snack.
Other places where you can go whale watching in the peninsula are:
San Ignacio lagoon (they say the whales are friendlier there), but quite expensive to organize a trip.
San Carlos - we only saw 3 whales there compared to at least 100 in Guerrero Negro.
