”Cajon del Azul“

Cajon del Azul is a canyon of the Rio Azul where the river becomes in a few places very narrow between 2 cliffs. The water is deep blue and transparent and you can see the fish and the bottom of the river which is about 10 meters deep!

This is a 10 km walk (in each direction), it takes about 4 hours to get there and about 2.5 hours to return. There is a refugio there with a very nice owner so you can sleep there and return the next day, or you can go and return in the same day. Get a map of the area in the tourist information office in Bolson.

The start of the trail is out of town, so you have to get there and either by bus or by remis (like taxi). Hitchhiking is hard because it is on a dirt road which goes to small farms, but if you`re lucky you can find on the trail tourists that came with a car and can take you back. There is a bus at 7:45 in the morning from the plaza in Bolson which goes to the start of the trail (a place called Wharton) and a bus back at 18:30 from the junction 2 km south of there. If you take a remis it is 9 pesos each direction and it can take upto 4 people.
