At the Maryland/Pennsylvania border there are three small ski resorts (Ski Liberty, Ski Whitetail and Ski Round top) about 1 to 1.5 hour drive from Washington or Baltimore. They have night skiing, Terrain Parks and make artificial snow. Ski Whitetail is the better of the three resorts. The best resort in the Mid-Atlantic area (Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia) is located West Virginia called Snowshoe, it is about 5 hours drive from Washington . Other options are Seven Spring in central Pennsylvania and the Poconos mountain area. However, skiing in the West (Rockies, Cascades, and Sierras) can not compare to the East. The snow quality, quantity of terrain, and views can not be duplicated in the East coast. There is plenty of cheap flight out of BWI (Baltimores Airport) to both Denver, Colorado & Salt Lake City, Utah.  The ski season in the West usually starts around November 20th thru April 20th and in the East it depends on the weather. The resorts near Maryland are usually open from mid December thru mid March. It really depends on the temperature, because most of the snow is man made, so it needs to be cold enough in order to make it. In the East snowboarding is more popular than skiing so both can be done at any of the resorts. These resorts are small compared to the West they are really hills and not mountains you have about 700 - 1000 feet of vertical at the most compared to 2000 - 4000 feet in the West. Ski passes run $45 for 8 hours $35 for 4 hours, but you can get some discount if you purchase a skier advantage card that you get 40% off ski pass, rentals and lessons. I believe that the skier advantage card cost about $100. Again Ski Liberty and Whitetail are no more than 90 minutes from both Washington and Baltimore and they have 100% night skiing. If you are planning a trip out west the best time as far as price and quality would be January 2nd thru February 13th (after New Years and before Presidents Day weekend) you can get great deals on lodging, ski pass and lessons. I do not know the prices for ski gear in Israel, but you can get great deals in Maryland. Try Ski Chalet (6 stores), Galayans and the Sports Authority.
