”חציית גבול מאקוודור לקולומביה“
the southern part of Colombia is considered as an unsafe. if you decide after all to cross from Ecuador to Colombia by land, here is some information. from Quito, take an early bus to Tulcan (buses every 20-30 minutes from the terminal of Quito), the northern city border. the journey takes about 5 hours, and cost 4-5 usd.
in Tulcan, take a taxi from the terminal to the immigration office (3usd). after finishing the stamping in the Ecuadorian side, walk 100 meters to the Colombian side. they might ask from you a leaving ticket (they shoud`nt, but sometimes they do- try to ask for mercies...). if you have a flying ticket from Bogota, it`s ok, but in other case, it`s more complicated. you will be asked to arrive first to the terminal of Ipiales (the Colombian border city), to buy a ticket, although you have no Colombian stamp... the cheapest option is a false bus ticket from Popaian to Ipiales...sounds stupid, but you need an entry stamp.
shared taxi to the terminal should cost 2500 pesos. then, return to the Colombian immigration, and get your stamp. I recommand to pass the night at Ipiales, because in southern Colombia you should move on the roads only in daylight. in the morning after, you can jump to a short visit in the beautiful Catedral of Las-Lajas. then, continue to Pasto (2 hours from Ipiales) or to Popaian (8 hours), but only in daylight. troubles could happened after 21:00, when the Guerilla might stop buses. the best is to go with ``Bolivariana`` buses - I heard they pay money to the Guerilla, not to stop their buses. you can buy the false leaving ticket (for the immigration) in Bolivariana company, and change the direction- from Ipiales to Popaian. complicated, but possible.
