”Shuar village“

If you want to visit a Shuar village, you can go to the village San Luis near the town of Macas. You can get to Macas by bus from the south from Cuenca or from the north from Puyo, Baños or Quito. There are buses from Macas to San Luis from the Rayo de Luna company behind the market, 60 cents, about 50 minutes. They do not wear traditional clothes anymore, and there is almost no one with tatoos on the face (I saw only one). They do live in their traditional houses built of bamboo and straw roofs. They use their original Shuar language, but they also speak Spanish. On Sundays between 10-11 am they have a misa in the Shuar language in the church in the centre of the village. This is not a touristic place, so the people are very curious about tourists and many came to talk to me and even invited me to their house to talk.
