תחבורה ציבורית ומוניות באולן בטאר ”הגעה ברכבת הטרנס סיבירית“
הסבר על הרכבת הטראנס סיבירית, שיוצאת מבייג'ינג ומרוסיה:
The best way to get to Mongolia is by the Trans Siberian railway. Trains leave Beijing twice a week and take a day and a half to get to Ulaan Bataar. You can buy tickets in Beijing, at the CITS in the International Hotel.
If there are no tickets to the Trans Siberian, quite common on the high season, you can take local Chinese trains to the border: Take train number 89 to Jinning, which leaves Beijing at 20:00 every evening. From Jinning take train number 753 to Erlian on the Chinese - Mongolian border.
At the border you can try catching the Trans Siberian again - surprisingly enough, usually they will have tickets there to the same train that was full in Beijing or take a domestic Mongolian train to UB.
From Russia the ride takes four days. Some found it a fascinating ride, other an endless journey.
The conditions on the train are very good, even excellent for those who are used to the Chinese trains. The cheapest class, hard sleeper, has four beds in each cabin, share toilet for the whole carriage and a boiler for hot water, so bring the tea cans alone.
There is a restaurant on the train, which serves reasonable meals, though they can be a bit expensive for backpackers. Get some of the un-avoidable Chinese noodles before going on the train. You can also buy food on the way, as there are people selling it trough the trains windows when it slows on stations.
The train arrives to UB in the afternoon, and there will be people from different guesthouses waiting to take you with them.
