i cross the border just yesterday. from siliguri you take a bus to panitanky (15 rupy) then you go by otoriksha to the indian border office. sign yourself out. then to the nepaly side to get visa. 30$ exactly.

the border twn kakavitta is very nice you might need to spend a night here..

go to monalisa hotel, they r very nice. bus to kathmandu goes 4:30 am or 15:30 pm cost around 450 nepali rupy. they say that it safer to go by the morning one.
